Breeder: Morningside Stud.
Sire: Don Laurie is a very exciting young sire by the top German Grand Prix competitor and sire Don Schufro, holder of the #1 position in the German dressage breeding index in recent years. Don Schufro is a son of the great Donnerhall and his motherline is world-famous. Don Laurie's dam is by the most important thoroughbred in dressage breeding, the great Lauries Crusader xx, producer of international Grand Prix progeny in the first generation and sire of a large number of approved sons and excellent broodmares. And Don Laurie's dam Laura is a half-sister to the great dressage progenitor Weltmeyer.
Dam: Orista is a 1996 Orista KWPN studbook mare that has already produced foals by Nithard and Fuego du Prelet. In 2004 she had a colt by Royaldik, named Zaddik m2s. In 2005 she produced Arista m2s. Orista's sire Lagos, a Holsteiner stallion, was ranked by the WBFSH as the world's 102nd best sire for the decade ending in 2001. Among his many international offspring are Lacosta (2nd in the World Cup Qualifier at Palm Beach) and Lenz-Land of Kings (a successful international showjumper and the successful sire of international competitors in his own right), both ridden by American rider Margie Engle Goldstein, and Loxley (Nations Cup winner and Team Gold Medal winner at the European Championship for Young Riders in 1996) and Lagossa (successful in Nations Cup and Grand Prix classes). Lagos is also the damsire of the excellent jumping mare Goldika ridden by Toni Hassmann. Lagos is by the great Ladykiller xx and his damsire is Moltke I, famous in Holsteiner breeding as the damsire of stallions such as Laurin, Latino, Romino, Koriander, Lauritz, Lysander, Goodwill, Pik Bube Son, Ramiro's Son I and II. Moltke I's sire is Maximus, the damsire of Capitol I (ranked as the world's #1 sire in 2001) and Capitol II, Latus I and II, and the important dam of sires U-Capitola. Maximus is also the sire of Marathon, winner of the 1984 European Championship for Young Riders. In Lagos' motherline we find the mare Dorette, also the dam of Farn (sire of, among others, Nimmerdor) and the dam of Roman (Holstein's famed damsire of Cantus, Carolus I and II, and other important sires). Orista's dam Diane is a KWPN studbook mare. Diane's progeny include Irma, a B-level dressage mare; Kurista, a B-level dressage and B-level showjumper; Mark, a B-level dressage and B-level showjumper, and Orista. Diane is by Oldenburg, who has many offspring competing internationally including the succesful Nations Cup horse Profumo and other international horses including Zucarlos and Future. Oldenburg is by the very important Anglo-Arab sire Inschallah, who brought much needed "blood" to the Oldenburg studbook. Ischallah AA produced many international jumpers including Ile de Bourbon under Thomas Fruhmann, Clips under Korean rider Sohn Bong-Gak, and Illusion; he is also the damsire of many stallions in the Oldenburg and Hannoverian studbooks including Cardinal, the international horse ridden by Ludo Philippaerts, and the excellent dressage stallions Rohdiamant and Royal Diamond. Diane's dam Sandra produced the B-level dressage mare Zonna; the L-level dressage and Z-level showjumping mare Banita; the Z-level dressage and L-level showjumper Elzas; the L-level showjumper F, and the ZZ-level showjumper G. The sire of Sandra is Maykel (by Exilio xx). Maykel is very interesting both as a sire of international showjumpers including Cavalier (winner of over 40 international classes) under Jerry Smit, Ivar (winner of the individual gold medal for showjumping at the 1999 Pan American Games in Winnipeg, Manitoba) under Ian Millar, and Bollvorm's Felix (placed seventh individually in showjumping at the Seoul Olympics in 1988 and the next year winner of the bronze individual medal at the European Championships) under Jos Lansink; Maykel is also a successful sire of dressage horses such as Gestion Idool, the eighth best dressage horse in 2001 under Anky Van Grunsven. Maykel was ranked by the WBFSH as the 9th best dressage sire in the world in 2001.
